CNC bending machine purchase knowledge


1.The parts you want to make


The first important thing to consider is the parts you want to produce. The point is to buy a machine that can complete the processing task with the shortest table and smallest tonnage.

Carefully consider the material grade and maximum thickness and length. If most of the work is low carbon steel 16gauge and the maximum length is 10 feet, then the free bending force need not be greater than 50 tons.However, if a large number of substrates are used for forming, a 150 ton machine tool may be considered.


Ok, assuming the thickest material is 1/4 inch, 165 tons for 10 feet free bending and at least 600 tons for bottom die bending (corrected bending).If most of the work is 5 feet or less, the tonnage is roughly halved, thus greatly reducing the purchase cost.The length of the parts is very important to the specification of the new machine.


2. Deflection compensation

Under the same load, the torsion of the 10-foot machine table and slider is four times that of the 5-foot machine.This means that shorter machines require fewer gasket adjustments to produce qualified parts. Reducing gasket adjustment also shortens the preparation time.Material grade is also a key factor. Compared with low carbon steel, the load required by stainless steel usually increases by about 50%, while most grades of soft aluminum decrease by about 50%.You can always get a table of the tons of the machine from the bending machine manufacturer, which shows the tons per foot length required for different thicknesses and materials.


3. Bending radius of parts


When free bending is adopted, the bending radius is 0.156 times of the opening distance of the die.In free bending, the gap between the die openings should be 8 times the thickness of the metal material.For example, the bending radius of the part is about 0.078 inches when the 1/2 inch opening distance is used to form 16gauge low carbon steel.If the bending radius is almost small to the thickness of the material, a concave die must be formed.However, the pressure required to form a substrates die is about 4 times greater than that required for free bending.
